Climb: Mt. Gulugod Baboy at Anilao, Mabini, Batangas

The first attempt to climb a mountain wasn’t bad at all, it made me fall inlove to our nature all over again. Who doesn’t want to experience this kind of life wherein you have the freedom to do things that you never did before? 🙂

Mt. Gulugod Baboy

Mt. Gulugod Baboy or “Pig Spine” in English was named after because of its similar formation to the spines of a pig. It is located in Anilao, Mabini, Batangas which stands 525 meters above sea level. The mountain is rated with a minor climb specification and difficulty to 2 out of 9. This is the reason why I have chose the mountain for our 2nd hike, if I already knew it before Mt. Maculot I would have been into this place before Maculot. Haha. 🙂

How to get there:

From Buendia terminal, we took a bus bound to Batangas or with a signboard of Batangas Pier, travel time is around two to two and half hour. From Batangas grand terminal, we rode a jeepney that routes to Mabini and we just told the driver to drop us at the Philpan Diving Resort or the jump off site of Mt. Gulugod Baboy. Then the driver asked us if we wanted to be fetch after our climb, of course yes, so we agreed for the pick up time.

Trekking

We arrived at the place at 10:00 a.m. because we did not hire for a solo jeepney, it is only advisable for  a large group who can share the fare among themselves. There was a last minute back out leaving us only six in the group, we didn’t care rain or shine we’re gonna do this! 🙂

 Before the Trekking 🙂

IMG_9490 From left to right: Uod, Budz, Me, Vaneng, Rachz, Paj

IMG_9503IMG_9513        We started to trek at exactly 10:30 A.M. From the registration area you will still have the time to walk in a smooth road for 10 minutes  but you will have to exert effort on it. We have three joiners and that was their first time to hike, so I will not be the weakest hiker this time! Hahaha Just kidding. 🙂 We were not yet starting for real but we already stop for a while to rest, it was all because of the uphill road. Budz was having difficulty to breathe that time, Vanessa was already tired so I suggested to relax. (Feeling pro) Haha.

IMG_9616

Though it was my second time to hike a mountain, I am not with Budz when I did it, so basically it was also his first time to climb with the two other girls Rachz and Vane. 🙂 So look at Budz and the two other guys beside him, Budz sweat all the time even if he is not climbing a mountain, its natural to him. 🙂

IMG_9611IMG_9613            Now, you have an idea how is it to trek Mt. Gulugod baboy, Madam Rachz can still use                                                              her mobile phone, isn’t amazing? Haha. 🙂

The hike was originally plan before the week we did it but because of the advance weather forecast of the upcoming storm, we cancelled the hike. Better safe than sorry. 🙂 Good thing that we did not fail when we push through with it after a week as the sun really shine brightly. :p We were also the first group to climb the mountain that day. We own the place! We own the mountain! Yipeeee! 🙂

IMG_9561

Looking for the right way UOD?!

We rested every now and then when we saw beautiful scenery from above, we waited for each other and we talked about random thoughts. We were connected to each other and our group seems to be solid as one. My dream team in hiking, it added to the reasons why the hike wasn’t hard at all- good company. 🙂 In other blogs that I have read you can always find a sari-sari store on the trail but in our own experience, maybe because it was also off season plus there was a storm in the previous week we didn’t see any of those locals.

So who were the part of our Team Gulugod Baboy? 🙂 Ohhh well. 🙂 check this out! 🙂

IMG_9689

Budz- our own version of Phil Younghusband in Mt. Gulugod Baboy. Haha. 🙂

IMG_001613

 Ohhh hello! 🙂 Me the Planner/Organizer. 🙂

IMG_0040

Kudos to this guy! 🙂 We didn’t have to hire a guide because of him. 🙂 Well he already climbed different mountains. 🙂 Pro Hiker indeed! 😀

IMG_0001

Vaneng showed the true spirit of willingness in this climb. 🙂 Haha. 😀

IMG_0047Paj, the soon to be Pro hiker. Haha. 🙂

IMG_9951Rachz the Goddess of Mt. Gulugod Baboy. Pose like you didn’t hike at all. Haha 🙂

When you reach the peak of Mt. Gulugod Baboy it seems like you are in farm, hacienda or New Zealand Peg. You’ll see green, everything is green with cows. Be careful, you cannot just roll over the grass as you don’t want to smell like a human poops! Haha. Yessss, there’s a lot of pupu everywhere! If I remember it right, I stepped into it not once but twice!!! Don’t worry, there are three peaks in Mt. Gulugod Baboy so as you walk, your shoes will be clean again! Haha.

IMG_9934

Mooooooooooooooooooo!

IMG_9997

What else to do in a mountain when you are the only group in the peak?! Ohhh let’s do something crazy! 🙂

IMG_9802IMG_9804 IMG_9801 IMG_9799

Jump Jump! 🙂

For the first 30 minutes of our stay in the peak, we realized that it was becoming foggy. At first we thought that it was only a smoke seeing it from far away but when it reached our point we confirmed that it was a fog. Then we decided to transfer to the other peaks. I felt a little bit scared when we can’t see anything.

IMG_9767

No, he’s not what you think he is. He’s not the bad guy who will kill a group of friends having a good time in a mountain.

IMG_9757 IMG_9758

I hate it when I carry our own camera! I’m not included in the pictures and look at Budz, amazing he was already on the top of the second peak and I’m the one taking that picture. You see we are not that clingy, HE LEFT ME UNATTENDED! (Cellphone?!) No big deal. Hahaha. 😀

Well, I suggest since there are 3 peaks in Mt. Gulugod Baboy better plan which one to go first. When we did it, we just went to the peak near us without really noticing that we started at the middle so  there’s a need to go back again to where we started in order to be in peak 3, which is a little bit far from our peak 2.

IMG_9826IMG_9824

Rachz, forced Vaneng to run in the grass so they end up rolling down. Hey guys still lucky, there’s no poops! 🙂

The climb was totally super easy in my opinion. I highly recommend this to the beginners like me and some of my friends. 🙂 You’ll enjoy the beautiful 360 degree view of Batangas. Then after a tiring hike go have a side trip in Sombrero island if you are with a large group. 🙂

Thanks for your informative blog 🙂
Ask ko lang if easy lang po ba yung trails ? Kayanin kaya ng mga kids ko boy and girl age 14 and 12 ?

  5. Sorry for the late reply, haven’t visited my blog for a long time. Mt. Gulugod Baboy is so easy to navigate and very east to climb! I hope you can also share your experience in this thread, ganun pa din ba sya kaganda? 🙂
