Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2014 took place for the first time in Manila, Philippines, from February 6 to 9, 2014. I am one of the blessed staff who was chosen to be a volunteer of the event. Out of 700 staffs who registered from Asia, only 300 were luckily given the chance.
At first, I really can’t believe that I am the lucky person from our cluster to join this event. I didn’t expect it to be me, I didn’t actually mind to think of it already because I remember when I tried to register last year’s SEM I was rejected. So my feeling was like, I will not be the one who will be chosen here but thanks to my senior team manager who really surprised me with it.
Aside from the experienced I got from this event, cool perks were the best.
I got a joining kit that contained 4 Shell Eco-Marathon t-shirts, tumbler, cap, bag and a manual book of the event.
Food voucher in Manila Hotel for the whole duration of the event.
Hotel accommodation for 6 days and 5 nights at Hotel H2O. It was my favorite perks I received. I really enjoyed staying in this hotel.
It was my first time to slept with a big aquarium beside me with a lot of fishes, that was so relaxing by the way. The room is called Club Aqua Room. Imagine, after staying for a long hours under the sun for the whole day that made me tired was forgotten after I have entered my room. If I would be given a chance to go here in the future, why not however it is so pricey so I won’t be coming back but if it is for free again. Go! 🙂
My family and friends also got the chance to visit me there but they did not stay for an overnight because I am afraid to be charge for additional fee. While they were enjoying my room with the aquarium and fishes I am in the event busy for sun bathing.
Papa, Mama, Breanna, Chikka, Kim and Tita Lits.
Next set of visitors, Ninang and Tita Mhennie.
Last set of visitors AWRA friends, Astrid and Rachel.
Getting back to the event, volunteers were divided into different work-streams to ensure that the event will go through into smooth sailing. I was assigned to be a track field marshal. Yes, I was inside the race track, post number 5 at the middle of the race track.
These were some of the regular marshals who accompanied me in the 5 days of being a volunteer marshal. I have a lot of pictures of them however, I accidentally deleted all. Hihihi.
By the way, Shell is very strict in terms of safety of their people. My two regular marshals were being pulled out in the second day of the event because they were caught sleeping in our post. These marshals were not part of Shell company, they are experienced and professional marshals assisting in a big race car events.
Me as a marshal. 🙂
We are having a dinner after the tiring day of assisting the event. These were my colleagues from Shell Accounts Payable SBSC-Manila. The work-streams assigned to them were very much comfortable to where I have been because I am like having a sun bathing the whole day.
Me trying the energy ball inside the Shell Energy Lab.
I am truly grateful to Shell being their staff. This one of a kind experience that they gave me will be treasured for a lifetime. 🙂
Thank you for reading my first post. 🙂
